Evaluation of Camera work.

In this post i am going to evaluate my camera work and how i achieved the footage i captured.

In the first scene of the music video you are put in a first person persepective heading towards brighton city along a dual carriage way this shot is used a lot in our music video and we actually had over 30minutes of the driving scene and selected scenes on there useability and how they looked so it was important to try and get these scenes right as they would feature heavly in the video the camera is not focused on anything but i think the movement of the lights and the traveling means there doesn't need to be anything extremely interesting in the shot.
Achieving a steady shot in a small car traveling at 60mph was one of the hardest things to achive we couldn't fit a tripod in the car so we had to create a natural alternative and rested my elbow on my knee to create some kind of steady platform i also didnt use any zoom as this can enhance the shakes.
Although the shot was taken inside a car we set the white balance to out door because we wanted it to stay the same color and tone whilst the footage flicked to and from the car scene and other scenes we also increased the aperture which is by definition the hole in which light enters the camera by increasing the aperture you are increasing the size of the hole this then means thats more light is entering the camera and should make your shot brighter because we were filming at night with only street lighting we wanted to make sure we got every detail we could so by increasing aperture the we made sure of this.
The next scene is another first person shot but this time the person is walking along a pavement with a graft tied wall to the left i believe this shot keeps to the rule of thirds and the wall takes up about a third of the shot another third is the pavement and the last third is the road this shot was hard to achieve because one again keeping the camera steady was an issue as well as making sure there was enough light so the viewer could make out the graffiti
The area that let us down especially for communication on set was the fact that are planning was not effective enough we drew up a basic storey board but that storey board could of been in much more detail each image on our board showed a 30 second clip but this was far to long to allow for each sequence and as we slowly grew further away from the storey it started become less useful although i dont think if we followed the storeyboard exactly the film would be that much better as we thought of new ideas and creative ways of using the camera which meant we created a slightly different product then we had imagined but a product which didn't lose value and was still very effective in its purpose
overall i think the camera work is fairly weak although i did use the manual settings and changed white balance, apperiture and other settings the shake of the camera and quality ruined the footage.
