This is my finished product for the promotion poster task ive tried to include themes which have been featured in both the music video and in the digipack
The poster was probably the hardest print media to produce because it was of a much larger scale then the digipack. when i took my photos i didnt relise and the quality of the image was lost when i tried to rescale the picture for this reason i had to stray away from what i had designed on my flatplans instead of a A4 size poster i decided to use a half page advert instead, this reduced the amount of information i could put on the poster and also made it harder to postion the words.
To get the long exposure techniques i wanted i had to use the manual settings on the camera and played around with the shutter speeds i began at 15 seconds but soon found that 30 seconds was enough time for my helper to put the light around me and to get the perfect picture
When i made this piece of print media i learnt alot on new skills and i also relied on old skills i had leant on past media courses, when i found out two of the projects were print based i had to do abit of individual reasearch as i had only done one print based media prject before that was for a music magazine i wanted this project to be alot more advanced with the images i took and i wanted them to be of much better quality, so i spoke to a few friends who took photography and also reasearched some interesting and unusual uses of the camera i liked the idea of long exposure techniques to increase the light that entered the camera and as bright lights were a main theme in my music video i thought long exposures would be a great way to keep bright lights a consatnt theme in my promotional poster so i spent sometime online and with a friend learning how to capture the perfect long exposure image
I also had to use a tripod because any shakes in the camera whilst the photo was being taken would mean that the light would appear all the shot i had to check that the height was ok and i used my helper to adjust the tripod to the perfect setting i also used a spirit level to make sure it was even
Here is the feedback i received from friends
At the time i took this photo the other person who drove me to the location was not in a costume i thought was right for the promotional poster. So i had to set up the camera and feature in the picture as well this was a difficult task and there was a few images that didnt go quite as planned as you can see to the right.
The reason why i didnt use this image is because the white halo around my body was only half complete and didnt give the same effect as the full halo. i also didnt think there was enough light from the road below me above my left shoulder was a horrible glare as well which just wasnt attractive almost of putting so i ahd to increase the exposure time
to allow my assistant enought time to trace my body with a torch to make sure there was enough light around me
I also had to use the tripod to make sure the camera was still because any movements in the camera when trying to create a long exposure would ruin the picture to make sure the camera was flat i downloaded a spirit level application on my phone which gave an acuurate enough reading and i place my phone on the tripod to get the reading before placing the camera on the tripod this insured my image was of good quality
Once i had my image i took it back to college and used a the photo editing software photoshop, photoshop is the most widely used application for any image editing when i opened a new document i selected the write size for my advert and i actually tried a few different sizes before settling for this half page size this shows poor planning but fortunately the flexibility of this print task made it possible for me to still complete the task.
I had to download a new font as the current fonts on photoshop were not contemporary enough for me so i searched dafont.com for various different graffiti fonts, there were many styles but i decided i wanted a style which was graffiti like but not to complicated that it made it hard to use so i choose amsterdam graffiti this was a simple more tag like font which was obviously graffiti but wasn't so complicated that it was hard to read ince the font was saved into my windows folder i wen on to applying it to my design.
photoshop works with layers so you can edit different layers without effecting other layers i put my image as the base layer and sent it to the back this image wasn't going to be editing much and i just resized to fit the specific size of the advert i then drew a text box and added metaphi in one of the largest font sizes, i decided metaphi should be the most important piece of writing on this poster as he is the artists of the track i then drew another box and added the text "out now! with bonus music video" this was a selling point of the digipack and i wanted people to know this making it more attractive to consumers
The last box i drew was for the quote i felt a quote was important as metaphi is still widely unknown so by having a quote from a critic it made sure to consumers they were getting a good product this is where i faced my first problem because the font i downloaded didn't feature speech marks so i had to make a new layer and postion speech marks from another font over the top to make it look like they belonged there
Green is a color which is rarely used for writing some believe it show insanity oand i like that green is slightly alternative to what most people use as a font but many people also see green as nature something which is rarely seen with dubstep so it is breaking a convention which i think is always good
If i was to do this product again i think i have a few aspects of the image i would redo i think i am positioned to far to the right leaving to much room to the left of the poster meaning theres a large dark space if i was positioned so that space wasn't so large i could increase the room for text this wouldn't mean that the text was bunched and that some of the letters wouldn't be touching the white halo
I should of also tried to keep the costume constant through out all the media products including the video although this isn't to much of a problem as the two print products have the same costume on them so theres the connection between them and people have noticed this connection with the feed back i have received
Here is the feedback i received from friends
"the image is good and unique with white lines around the person i also like how its got a strong connection with your other media products i am not to sure on the color of the writing but i do like the font"
"The information i need really jumps out at me and i kind of like the color goes well with his jacket i also really like the image i havnt seen anything like it before although there seems to be a large area of empty space on the left"
"I think its good that you have the same font in your digipack and in your advert i defiantly know they are connected the image is also good and i like the motorway beneath him"
