I am going to analyze two posters from the dubstep genre this critical analysis will help me explore the standard themes within most dubstep adverts and help me improve my personal poster for metaphi. This poster is advertising a new single caspa is releasing and follows many dubstep conventions, these conventions are current in most dubstep adverts and normally reflect the artists and the musics background.
Colour- This poster is manily black and white although the and is a simple image it hellps emphisize the bright pink "out now" the pink could be a statment against the sterotypical veiw that pink is for females this can be a striong statment espically when the target auidence for dubstep is males although it could be seen that the use of pink is to be attractive to the wider dance music auidence as seen by mtv's market reasearch on the dance music genre
Font- Stencils have recently seen an increasing connection to street art with contreversal grafitti artists such as banksy making stencils famous as i have mentioned before dubstep orginated from the city and many artists would have had conections to other art forms from the city such as grafitti, a more classic use of stencils used on music advertisements can be the link of stencils and prisons public enemy made this link very strong and featured the stencil font on there album artwork and other promotional goods.
Behind the font is even stronger links with the urban artform grafitti with paint splatters similar to the splatters caused by spray paint cans
Caspas clothing also has connections to the "street" a baseball jacket has been worn by many musical artists including dizze rascal who orginate from street so it is recognized as "streetwear" its also branded "Sub Soldiers" this can help the consumer make a link with caspa and other musicains signed to that label or with links to the organisation this can increase marketability and increases his attractivness to fans of the "sub soldiers" label. there can also be a connection with gangs although sub soldiers isnt a criminal gang but a musical gang it still keeps strong links with urban culture.
Mise en scene- Everything in media product is carefully thought about and there for a reason nothing is a cocidence, marketing people spend hours making sure evrything within an advertisment is perfect. in the photo caspa is standing infront of a railway sign somthing itself isnt to urban but when you read deeper into the sign you can notice destinations of the apparent trains i belive these destinations are not only used as caspa recognizing were he is from but it also makes him seem much more urban with fimilar names of towns on londons outskirts it could also be seen that as a musician caspa is taking on a journey of musical and personal adventure
