Analysis of Surya Dub Event poster.

Dubstep is a genre which takes inspiration from a wide range of music styles but one of the most used music styles is reggae many dubstep songs use samples from classic reggae songs such as john holts police in helicopter this use of reggae iN can also be seen from this promotional poster.


The use of red, yellow and green is most likely to pay homage to traditional rastafarian colors and reggae has its history interwind with rastafarian believes


And the lion is also used to pay homage to traditions as lions are very important in the Rastafarian culture along with reggae a genre of music in which alot of samples are taken to be used in dubstep songs, the lion also represents strength, power and authority and there is no doubt dubstep is a very strong and powerful sound



Behind the lion is also what seems to be some kind of graffiti style scribbles another connection to graffitti and it also empisizes the lions head with the contrast of yellow and red


The font used on this poster is similar to a stencil style and stencils have recently been made famous in the street art scene by artists such as banksy, stencils also have strong connections with prisons and armies as its a quick way to apply details on to items it has also been used by artists such as public enemy who have always been anti police and counter culture


This poster breaks many conventions because it uses a colour scheme associated with the genre of reggae although reggae has strong connections with dub which is a heavy influence fore dubstep artists it also keeps with some conventions auch as the use of street art
